Fans are not happy with the inclusion of Baker Mayfield in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad as their primary quarterback (QB). He stepped in to take the place of Tom Brady, who had been their regular quarterback in the previous season.

Mayfield’s inclusion wasn’t without its challenges, as he faced a barrage of trolls and taunts following the announcement. Twitter was flooded with reactions from the fans who left no stone unturned to express their dissatisfaction over the signing. 

Despite rants and trolls, Baker will seek this opportunity to reshape his career. Prior to the Buccaneers, he played for three different teams in the NFL. He was associated with the Cleveland Browns, the Carolina Panthers, and the Los Angeles Rams before.

In a competitive race with Kyle Trask, the 28-year-old quarterback emerged as the likely choice for the coach in the upcoming grueling season. The signs point towards his preference over Trask. The quarterback is set to make his debut against the Minnesota Vikings on September 10th.

However, Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles did not officially reveal his plan regarding the starting line-up. When he was asked about the possible squad, he said ESPN, “We don’t have a timetable on it. We’ll name [a starter] when we name it. We feel comfortable with where we’re at, so we’ll go from there.”

Yet, insiders indicate that Baker is leaning towards being the top choice due to his greater experience compared to Trask. The 28-year-old QB has started 72 games over five seasons, throwing for 16,288 yards, 102 touchdowns, and 64 interceptions.

As soon as the news broke that Baker Mayfield was set to become the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Twitter was inundated with a wave of fans posting trolls and taunts. Many labeled this move as a major downgrade for the Buccaneers, who are striving to address the massive void left by Tom Brady’s departure.


With this announcement, Mayfield is poised to join an exclusive club. He will become only the sixth quarterback since at least 1950 to commence as a Week 1 starter for a distinct team in three consecutive seasons.
