“None of my business”: Baker Mayfield makes a SHOCKING statement on Deshaun Watson’s 6-game suspension
Baker Mayfield was made to leave the Cleveland Browns after they roped in controversial quarterback Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans. The Browns made an outrageous offer for Watson, which would see the 26-year-old quarterback earn around $230 million over 5 years, even with those numerous sexual harassment cases against his name.
After Watson was found guilty of violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy by disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson, reporters wanted a big reaction from the man whom Watson would be replacing in the upcoming season for the Browns. However, Baker Mayfield did not have much to say about his former colleague and simply wanted to focus on his role with the Carolina Panthers.
Baker Mayfield is working on his game with the Carolina Panthers instead of focusing on Deshaun Watson’s suspension
“I’m paid to play quarterback and lead this team, not to make decisions on anything other than that,” Mayfield told reporters after Carolina’s first padded practice of training camp.
Mayfield, who is often outspoken on issues, claimed that it was none of his business to comment on Deshaun Watson, as he would not come up face to face against him, and he is only trying to help the Panthers get a winning start cometh the first week of the regular season.
“Honestly, it’s none of my business. I don’t play against the other quarterback. I know it’s the most cliché thing to say, but that’s just the truth. If I’m playing or not, I’m trying to help this team win. That’s my mindset going into it. I’m not focused on Week 1 right now. I’m working on each day’s install and trying to get better.”
Mayfield needs to bring out his A-game during the preseason matches for the Panthers if he is to make his claim for the starting quarterback position, which is still up for grabs at the franchise.
