Mac Jones was drafted by the Patriots with huge expectations and gave a stellar performance in his rookie season. There were lots of eyes on Tom Brady’s heir. However, the previous season wasn’t kind to the Patriots QB as he struggled to put points on the board consistently.
Although Jones had a strong rookie campaign the season before, he wasn’t able to follow it through with a good performance this season. With Patriots backup QB Bailey Zappe fighting for the No.1 spot, it was time for Jones to make a comeback.
However, HC Bill Belichick had another plan in mind and wants to take a different approach with Jones. Belichick is considered one of the best coaches of this era. The Patriots HC started a Super Bowl dynasty with Tom Brady and won 6 Lombardi Trophies during their time together.
According to a report by the Athletic, HC Belichick has instructed his assistant coaches to ‘not be too hard’ on Jones and take a bit of a constructive approach towards him.
This is highly surprising, as Belichick was the complete opposite with Tom Brady and that worked wonders for the team. However, every QB is different and can’t be typecast the same way.
Brady used the hate and disappointment as fuel to deliver a legendary performance. Maybe that’s not the case with Mac Jones. Nonetheless, the Patriots fans want this new constructive approach by Belichick to work as they are struggling in the offense.
Mac Jones and the Patriots are struggling offensively

The Patriots have two quality QBs on their roster, Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe. However, both have not been able to fill the void left by the great Tom Brady when he moved to the Bucs. The Patriots have been poor offensively since his departure and will need to seriously change things to get back to the top.
Their starting QB Mac Jones disappointed all the fans last season. Jones’ previous seasons’ stats were terrible as he threw for 2,997 yards while scoring 14 touchdowns and threw a massive 11 interceptions along the way.
With new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien on the way. Jones will look to reignite the stellar form that he portrayed during his rookie season and completely book the starting spot for himself instead of Zappe. The Patriots had an abysmal season in the NFL and will look to start the next season on a stronger note.
