Cincinnati Bengals have done it again! They’ve made it to the AFC Championship for the second straight year. The Bengals will face the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, which will be a replay of last year’s game to win the coveted Lamar Hunt Trophy.
HC Zac Taylor and QB Joe Burrow have completely changed everyone’s perspective of the Cincinnati Bengals from being considered the worst team in the league to a Super Bowl contender every year.
They defeated the Buffalo Bills in a one-sided 27-10 beat down and crushed the 2022 Super Bowl favorites at home. Quarterback Joe Burrow set the tone of the game early on with a touchdown on the opening drive of the game, but the real credit goes to the defense. Lou Anarumo’s defense had the perfect counter for the Bills’ every play. They picked off Josh Allen during the second half of the game and broke off too many passes to count. All in all, it was a great night for the fourth-year head coach Zac Taylor.

During the Week 17 face-off of the Bills-Bengals, Buffalo’s safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field which shook the entire NFL world. The game was canceled as a result and this opened a can of problems for the league. The NFL came up with a few additional rules to the existing ones. According to the new rules, if the Bengals were to lose against the Baltimore Ravens in the final week of the regular season, they would lose home advantage despite clinching the AFC North.
The Bengals-Ravens wild card game site was supposed to be decided by a coin toss to determine a home advantage. The league also planned for a neutral game site for the AFC Championship game if it was against Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs. Cincinnati really took it to their heart about being sidelined in the AFC title consideration. They crushed all the contingencies set by the league in case the Bengals lost.
“It is tough because they have to formulate the plans for coin tosses, and they got to formulate the plans for neutral site games, and we just keep screwing it up for everybody,” Zac Taylor said after winning the divisional playoffs. “And I hate that for people who have to endure all the logistical issues, we just keep screwing it up. So I’m sorry.”
As Joe Burrow told CBS’ Tracy Wolfson “The job’s not finished” for the Cincinnati Bengals. After almost three decades of losses, the golden era has begun for The Queen City under Joe Burrow and Zac Taylor, who are a Chiefs win away from their second consecutive Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will be looking for revenge after last year’s OT loss and will look to even the score. It’ll be an action-packed AFC Championship this year!
