Alarm bells started ringing for the Cincinnati Bengals when their primary quarterback, Joe Burrow, was carted off during practice on July 27. Doubts started forming on the coaching staff’s heads as it could end in a disaster for their side from week 1. But to the surprise of wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, Burrow returned to training yesterday.

It would have been impossible to imagine just a few weeks ago, as the medical examiner feared the worst for the 26-year-old. Analysts such as Emmanuel Acho speculated that it could be an Achilles tear. While there’s still no concrete data as to what type of injury Burrow suffered, he looks to be back and throwing balls again.

Unsurprisingly, Burrow’s teammates, and especially Chase, were left awestruck to see him padded up yesterday during practice. The media asked the Pro Bowler about his thoughts on the early return of their signal caller.

“What’s he doing?” Chase said this, as per Dov Kleiman of the NFL. He apparently wasn’t aware of Burrow’s return. “I saw him during the walkthrough but didn’t think he would practice.”

“He didn’t really do as much today,” Chase continued. “Just getting a feel for your reps again. It’s just a matter of time until we get the reps on the field.”

Chase wanted Burrow to focus on rehab and join him by week five. But the 2021 NFL comeback player of the year is back like he never left. The LSU graduate completed a few throws on Wednesday. One of them was an arrowed pass to rookie wide receiver Charlie Jones.

Will the Bengals give Joe Burrow a new contract soon?

The former No. 1 pick has been on his rookie contract and was due an extension after a couple of outstanding seasons, including winning the divisional title. After Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert received a blockbuster deal, many speculated that Joe Burrow was next in line. However, since his injury, the contract talks have died down. But head coach Zac Taylor says the two are not related.

On Tuesday, Taylor assured that his quarterback’s absence has nothing to do with his extension. Moreover, he praised the predicted NFL MVP, saying, “He has a very healthy body, and I’m encouraged by that.”

Joe Burrow had signed a four-year, $36,190,137 contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. They need to tie him down to a new deal as early as possible. Moreover, there’s still no clarity on whether he will play against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.
