The Dallas Cowboys are once again the most valuable franchise in the NFL. While it has been a while since they won a Super Bowl, Jerry Jones has managed to keep his beloved team profitable.

According to Mike Ozanian and Justin Teitelbaum of Forbes, the Cowboys’ worth is $9 billion, easily surpassing the next best, the New England Patriots $7 billion. The Los Angeles Rams and the New York Giants are third and fourth with $6.9 billion and $6.8 billion, respectively. The Chicago Bears squeeze into the top 5 with $6.3 billion. As per the Forbes report, “the average NFL team is now worth $5.1 billion, 14 percent more than last year.” They added that it’s possible because of “more television money.”

Moreover, sports tycoon Josh Harris‘ takeover of the Washington Commanders, worth a record $6.05 billion, contributed to the growth. They lie in the 8th spot behind the Las Vegas Raiders in sixth ($6.2B) and the New York Jets ($6.1B). However, there were a few shocks on the list as well. The 2022–23 Super Bowl winner, the Kansas City Chiefs, lingered in the 23rd spot with $4.3 billion in revenue. But the Cincinnati Bengals were the biggest surprise, coming in dead last. They generated around $3.5 billion, which is half of what commanders made.

The Dallas Cowboys, along with the NFL, are booming businesses

It’s not surprising that the NFL franchises have such massive turnovers almost every year (excluding the COVID-19 years). Football arguably attracts the largest crowds on match days and has a greater following compared to other sports in the USA. As per Forbes, “the aggregate value of the entire league is $163 billion, [which] is almost as much as the NBA and MLB combined.”

Last month, they announced the list of the most valuable sports ventures in the world. The list, yet again topped by the Dallas Cowboys, featured six NFL franchises. The only other teams that made the cut were the NBA‘s Golden State Warriors, the Los Angeles Lakers, the MLB’s New York Knicks, and the New York Yankees.

Moreover, the new TV deal that the NFL signed, as per the New York Times, will help bring in more profit. Commissioner Roger Goodell announced in March 2021 that they were agreeing to a $100 million contract with CBS, NBC, Fox, ESPN, and Amazon collectively that will start in 2023 and run until 2033.
