The entire NFL world was shocked when legendary quarterback Tom Brady announced that he is retiring for good this time. The 45-year-old who came back after retiring the first time couldn’t complete his dream of winning one last Super Bowl. Sadly, he had to end his 23-year-long once-in-century career with a loss in the playoffs to the Dallas Cowboys.

Brady’s journey in the league has literally been the stuff of legends. He was selected 199th in the 2000 NFL draft by the New England Patriots. He spent 19 years in Foxboro and was the center point of the Patriots dynasty that ruled the NFL for nearly two decades. He won six Super Bowls with the team and finally parted ways with them in 2020.

Bill Belichick, head coach for the Patriots, was the one who believed in Brady and nurtured him into the icon he is today. Both of them share immense love and respect for each other despite what rumors say. After Brady announced his retirement, Belichick penned down an emotional and beautiful message for Brady and showered him with praise.

Bill Belichick says he learned a lot from Tom Brady

“The greatest player. The greatest career. A great, great person,” Belichick said on Tom Brady’s podcast Let’s Go! “I guess it has to end at some point. I learned so much from Tom because, as you know, I never played quarterback and I never saw the game through the quarterback’s eyes. I saw it through a coach’s eyes. And Tom would tell me what he saw and how he saw it.”

“It was incredible how during the game, he’d come off and I’d say, ‘What happened on that play?’ And he’d go through eight things that happened: tackle flash in front of me; this guy slipped; I saw the linebacker drop wide; safety was a little deeper than I thought he would be; and then this guy stepped in front and I kind of put it a little bit behind him because I saw this other guy closing. And then you’d go back and look at the film, and every one of those things happened in the exact sequence that he explained it to you on the field. I’m like, ‘This guy sees everything.'”

Things did not end well with Brady and Belichick when the two went their separate ways after two decades of being together. Some say there was bad blood between the legendary head coach-QB duo after the cold and stern Belichick banned Brady’s personal trainer and the co-inventor of the TB12 method – Alex Guerrero. The 70-year-old coach was always like the father who wasn’t impressed easily, and Tom Brady was like the kid who needed constant validation for his wins.

But Bill Belichick always wore his poker face everywhere and even with his players. He didn’t think twice before trading a fan-favorite player who started showing a decline in his production. This hurt Brady a lot, as all he could do was stand back and watch his friends leave the team. Still, the two have managed to keep a professional relationship for the cameras and never once did they bad mouth each other.

But now looks like Belichick has finally given in to his emotions and gushed about Brady for five straight minutes. Everything is well and good between the two as they have possibly patched things up. Belichick will continue being the head coach of the Patriots and Brady will join the Fox broadcasting booth in the fall of 2024.
