The future of arguably the best NFL head coach Bill Belichick remains uncertain. The New England Patriots had another poor season.
They finished their 2023 season with just four wins and 13 losses, the worst since their season in 2000. With consecutive losing seasons, there are speculations that Robert Kraft, the owner of the team, may sack Belichick after more than two decades.
Nonetheless, the HC remained skeptical about commenting on his future. Belichick was speculated to receive the pink slip during the season and every time the veteran was asked, he dodged the question. He followed the same pattern after the last game of the season.
I’m under contract. I’m going to do what I always do. As far as any decisions or direction for next year, way too early for that.Belichick said
Hinting at the veteran would have a meeting with the owner, the HC further stated,
It might be a series of meetings. I don’t know. We’ll handle that internally.
Belichick has won six Super Bowls for the Patriots squad. His team boasted multiple legends in multiple positions. Among those legends, the most discussed was Tom Brady, the legendary quarterback who took the ‘quarterback’s game’ to a new height.
Belichick is ready to help the team in the best possible ways
Talking to the press, Belichick said that he would respect whatever decision the owner takes. His words reflected that if the owner decides to let him go, then he will depart the Patriots squad.
I’m for whatever we collectively decide as an organization is the best thing to help our football team-- “I’m here to work to help our team every day. That’s what I’m going to do.
Belichick’s decisions have attracted a lot of criticism this season. Multiple analysts criticized that he was the sole person behind the struggles that his quarterbacks suffered.
Nonetheless, the veteran HC enjoyed the support of the former players and players from the rival teams. It doesn’t lessen the odds of Belichick and New England’s highly likely breakup.
