Tom Brady, the former New England Patriots quarterback, will make a return to Foxborough during the Patriots’ week 1 game. He won six Super Bowls with the Patriots. The Pats drafted him in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft. Brady is widely considered to the greatest QB of all time and his was one of the main reasons for the Pats domination over the league in the 2000s and majority of the 2010s.
Another reason why the Patriots enjoyed so much success was the head coach Bill Belichick. One of the best coaches of all time, he and Brady won six Super Bowls together. Brady left New England at the start of the 2020 season and joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won another Super Bowl. He retired from football earlier this year after a stellar 23-year career. The Pats will honor their former QB when they play the Philadelphia Eagles in their week 1 match up.
Belichick was asked about Brady’s return to New England. The Pats head coach had a smile while talking about his former quarterback. “It’ll be great to see Tom [Brady]. You know Tom’s meant so much to the this team, this organization, me personally. It was a tremendous experience to be able to coach him and for us to share the things that we shared together.” Belichick said in a recent press conference. “Look forward to seeing him and glad that he is getting a lot of recognition and appreciation for that, he certainly deserves it.”
The Patriots have struggled post Brady and only have one playoff appearance since he left New England in 2020. Belichick drafted Mac Jones as Brady’s replacement and will hope to work the same magic with him as he did with Brady. The Pats open their season against the defending NFC Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and will hope to win that game, with Brady watching from the stands.
Bill Belichick praises Mac Jones’ offseason improvement
The New England Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick had some praise for starting QB Mac Jones and his improvement in the offseason. Belichick believes that Jones is in “excellent physical condition” and has “made a lot of improvement in reads, decision-making and timing.” He told sports radio WEEI.
In a video conference on Monday, Belichick said “Mac’s had a good offseason and has had a really good camp, he understands the offense — how it works, how to get his teammates involved, how to help them be productive. So he’s had a really good stretch here; it’s been consistent all the way through.”
Jones was drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. After a successful first season with the team, in which Jones was selected to the Pro-Bowl and led the Pats to the playoffs, he had a mediocre last season. The Pats will hope to get the best out of Jones this season. They begin their campaign against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 10.
