Bill Belichick‘s pursuit of another head coaching job in the league might end in disappointment. The six-time Super Bowl champion was one of the Atlanta Falcons‘ main targets, but they surprised everyone by hiring the Los Angeles Rams’ DC Raheem Morris as their next HC. Belichick, who interviewed twice with the Falcons, was expected to become the team’s next head coach, but Arthur Blank decided against it.
As many as eight head coaching jobs were available after the regular season. One of them was vacated by Belichick himself, as he and the New England Patriots parted ways after a successful 23-year stint. However, right now, there are only two vacancies remaining in the NFL and neither of those two jobs are linked to the legendary head coach.
As a result of that, Belichick might enter the 2024 season without a job in the NFL. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Media though, believes that Belichick may land up on TV next season, as an analyst.
Rapoport said:
He could sit out the year and potentially become, maybe, the most coveted coach next year. He could be a consultant for a team. That’s certainly a possibility as well. … I wouldn’t be surprised if he joined us right here in the TV world... I wouldn’t put it past him to try for another.Ian Rapoport said
Belichick led the Patriots to a dismal 4-13 record this season. Since the departure of Tom Brady in 2020, he failed to lead the Pats to a deep playoff run. He and the Patriots’ organization ended their association after the regular season this year.
Mike Tirico believes that Bill Belichick would be ‘awesome’ as a TV analyst
Bill Belichick might not get a head coaching gig next season, but, according to commentator Mike Tirico, the six-time Super Bowl champion would make an amazing TV analyst. Even if it’s only a short-lived job, the legendary head coach wouldn’t have any trouble making the switch to television, according to the play-by-play commentator for “Sunday Night Football.”
Tirico said in an interview with Waddle & Silvy on ESPN Chicago:
If he ends up not getting a job and does TV for a year or more, he’ll be awesome. He’ll be the guy that everybody shuts up and listens to. I promise you.Mike Tirico said
There are only two head coaching vacancies remaining in the NFL, the Washington Commanders and the Seattle Seahawks. However, Belichick hasn’t interviewed with those teams.
He had two interviews with the Atlanta Falcons and was expected to sign with them, but the Falcons surprised everyone by giving Raheem Morris the job, instead of Belichick. The legendary head coach parted ways with the New England Patriots after the end of the regular season this year.
