It may very soon be the end of an era in New England as Bill Belichick, the brains behind the dynasty of the Patriots, is likely to be let go. The future of his job is contingent upon the outcome of Week 10 when the Patriots play the Indianapolis Colts as per BostonGlobe.
As per the report, Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots, has grown increasingly frustrated with the performance of the team this season and as a result, the source states:
I don't think it's 100% that Belichick finishes out this season.
That would be very shocking if it turns out to be true.
While Bill Belichick has had his worst season at New England winning just 2 out of 7 games so far, the following week may be the final straw that tips the Kraft’s off into taking some serious action. Ben Volin of the Boston Globe goes on to add,
If Belichick comes home from Germany with a 2-8 record, I think there's a chance the Krafts could make the move in the bye week.
Bill Belichick has been at the helm of the Patriots organization for 23 years
The season is already lost for New England, which ranks dead last in the AFC East. That is a big deal for a Bill Belichick-led team which has not been subject to this level of failure in a very, very long time.
In the event that the Kraft family decides to move on from Belichick, the team is likely to give the role of interim HC to linebackers coach Jerod Mayo. It would be a situation similar to that of the Las Vegas Raiders.
This is surprising as just a few weeks ago, there was a report that stated Robert Kraft extended Bill Belichick in the offseason. Another report came out indicating that the owner was aware of the discontent amongst fans who were getting frustrated about the manner in which the Patriots season was shaping up.
