For two whole decades, the New England Patriots ruled over the NFL with the most dynamic duo of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Not only do they win the highest count of Super Bowl rings, but they also created a legacy, with 17 divisional titles in 20 seasons on top of six Super Bowl trophies.

Belichick coached the Patriots, who were led by the legendary quarterback Brady, and redefined the way an NFL offense functions. However, like all good things, the dynamic duo also parted ways, as Brady moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 2020 NFL off-season.

And that’s when it was found, that the ‘dynamic’ part between head coach Belichick and Brady was solely carried out by the quarterback, who successfully led Tampa Bay to their Super Bowl victory in 2021. In the meantime, the Patriots were struggling to stand up under Cam Newton.

In the last four seasons that the Patriots have been without Brady, they are barely keeping up with the competition. Just this season, they bottomed out at a 4-13 season record, among the worst across the league.

As the franchise is set to pick third overall in the 2024 NFL draft, Belichick’s tenure has come to an end and the Patriots hope to start a new era of dominance. However, fans are still not over the poor numbers of Belichick without the future Hall of Fame signal-caller.

Fan reaction to Bill Belichick’s stats with and without Tom Brady

In his 29 years of coaching the Patriots, Belichick has a record of 333-178. However, the majority of that record, that is 249-75, was with the legend, Brady, while in the last four seasons without him, Belichick showed an 84-103 record.

The numbers give critics as well as fans to question Belichick’s credibility and his legendary legacy with the Patriots. One fan wrote, “Brady merchant who cheated,” while another wrote, “Bill built up Brady to become who he is. He did the rest of the work.”
