Under the combination of the legendary quarterback Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, the New England Patriots dynasty dominated the NFL for two decades. Brady and Belichick led the Patriots to six Super Bowl rings in that time span. If anyone knows about winning championships, it’s Belichick and Brady. But the Pats haven’t won anything meaningful in the last three years.

And now, in a recent interview on WEEI, the Patriots HC Belichick has opened up about the success of other teams in the last few years. Bill said that the teams can boost their success by going all in on one player but that won’t last for a long time.

“Temporarily you can, but you can’t sustain it, no,” Belichick said according to MassLive.com. “You can’t sustain the 20 years of success that we sustained by overspending every year without having to eventually pay those bills and play with a lesser team.”

Furthermore, he also named the teams that struggled after going all in for one year of success. Bill cited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Los Angeles Rams as examples of teams going all in and struggling on a rebuild later.

“So I think if you look at the teams that have done that, that’s kinda where some of them ended up. Jacksonville back in ‘14, the Rams are going through it, Tampa is going through it now. So, I’m not saying there’s anything right or wrong with it. It’s just a different way of doing things and there’s the results for doing that,” said Belichick.

As Bill Belichick claimed, the Los Angeles Rams did go all in by trading for Matthew Stafford back in the 2021 off-season. As a result, they ended up winning the Super Bowl. But they are paying their dues now by going through a rebuild.

On the contrary, the Buccaneers didn’t go all in like Belichick claimed. The Bucs built a strong roster through the draft over the years and signed the legendary QB Tom Brady in 2020 free agency.

They didn’t spend big for any players. The Buccaneers traded for tight end Rob Gronkowski and signed wide receiver Antonio Brown in the mid-season and ended up winning the Super Bowl ring.

The Bucs won 1 Super Bowl ring and 2 NFC South division titles under Brady. And now, after Brady’s retirement, the Bucs still have a roster that can compete for the division title, but their QB situation makes it seem like they are going through a rebuild.
