Bill Belichick to Cowboys? Ex-Patriots QB starts a wild rumor of Jerry Jones firing Mike McCarthy to bring the legendary HC

Bill Belichick‘s time in Boston, according to reports, is numbered. Some inside noise spilled out onto the papers, claiming that Robert Kraft wants to move on from one of the most successful head coaches ever to take charge of a football team. While there’s a high probability that he might end up in LA, another surprising name has sprung up in the last few days.
To think about coach Belichick leaving the New England Patriots is surreal in its merit. But to end up in Dallas? Now that’s stretching a bit. Not to the former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak. His sources revealed to him that Jerry Jones could approach the 72-year-old if Kraft did decide to fire him.
I’m just saying, well, everybody assumes it. Everybody I talk to assumes it.Zolak spoke on 98.5 Sports Hub with ‘Zolak & Bertrand.’
That’s the biggest left-field shout since Tom Landry was ousted for Jimmy Johnson. Yes, Johnson had massive success for the Cowboys, winning three Super Bowls, but at that time, the legendary head coach was synonymous with the “Americas Team.”
Coincidentally, the owner who fired Landry was Jerry Jones. Later, the 81-year-old did say in an interview that he regretted the decision. If history repeats itself, will he say that again? The Cowboys haven’t won a Super Bowl in three decades; maybe Belichick could be the answer. There’s hardly anyone better than the person who has Seven Rings on his mantlepiece.
Does hiring Bill Belichick make sense for the Dallas Cowboys?
The New England Patriots, since the era of Tom Brady, have only managed one winning record. That was during Mac Jones’ rookie campaign in 2021. However, since then, Bill Belichick’s team has been on a downward spiral. The Patriots side that hardly ever missed a playoff game during the 2000s and 2010s is now 3-11 in 2023 and won’t be playing postseason football in back-to-back seasons.

These gave birth to the narrative that owner Robert Kraft might end up parting ways with Belichick at the end of the season. The rumor caught wind when the veteran owner was visibly upset with the thumping in Germany against the Indianapolis Colts.
However, there’s a catch. According to the Bleacher Report, Bill Belichick secretly signed a contract extension to keep him in New England until the 2024 season. There’s no guarantee that he will stick around, though.
It may not matter if both parties settle on a mutual termination of the agreement. On top of that, few believe that the Los Angeles Chargers are tailor-made for him to take over. They have a promising quarterback in the shape of Justin Herbert. One of the best defenses, led by sack-machine Khalil Mack and a group of capable receivers.
Now the Cowboys part doesn’t make much sense. They have been one of the best teams in the NFL (10-4), and Jones has recently come out and said that Mike McCarthy has coached three playoff teams in a row. It’s an indication that he is happy with the Cowboys’ performance.
There’s another hurdle that gives Belichick shout to the Cowboys a long shot. Like the Patriots coach, McCarthy has a contract that will keep him in Arlington until 2024. It will be tough to get rid of someone who is on course to deliver an NFC East title and possibly even the championship.
Then again, football is also a business, and every owner wants to turn a profit. If the Spanos family does envision Bill Belichick as their savior, then they might pay him out of Boston. ESPN’s Dan Graziano thinks so.
I’ve heard that the Chargers could be a place Bill Belichick might want to go if the Patriots do, in fact, move on from him. That’d be a shorter-term play for the Chargers, of course, but they’re always trying to find ways to goose fan interest out there, so I’m not ruling it out.Graziano wrote
Only time will tell what happens in the next couple of months. But before that, there’s a Super Bowl to be played.
