Things are seeming to be falling apart in the Patriots camp as new reports emerge that their head coach Bill Belichick shopped their former first-round pick Mac Jones to multiple teams in the 2023 off-season. What made Belichick do such a thing, especially since Jones has proven that he has the potential to lead an NFL franchise?

According to reports, the tension between Mac Jones and Bill Belichick has been growing for a long time. Jones’ yelling and screaming during the games seemingly doesn’t sit well with Belichick. However, Jones, who had a down year in 2022, seeking council outside of the Patriots organization, was the last straw that broke the camel’s neck.

“You know, the yelling and the gesticulations during the games was irritating enough, but Chris Simms alluded to this and I heard it reaffirmed today, going outside the building for council as to ‘Is this the way we’re supposed to be doing this?’,” said NBC Sport analyst Tom Curran about the Patriots situation. “That really pissed Bill off, and as we know, a betrayal of Bill, or disloyalty in Bill’s mind, is almost worse than bad play.”

It is unsure who Mac Jones confided to, but it is speculated that Jones sought council from his former Alabama offensive coordinator, Steve Sarkisian. Nevertheless, Belichick is still pissed off at Jones for doing that and is reportedly trying to trade him to another team.

After a Pro Bowl season in his rookie year, Mac Jones regressed a lot during his second year as the starting QB of the New England Patriots. But the Patriots owner Robert Kraft doesn’t blame the Alabama product for the below-average season.

“I’m a big fan of Mac,” Kraft said. “He came to us as a rookie. He quarterbacked in his rookie season and did a very fine job, I thought. We made the playoffs. I think we experimented with some things last year that frankly didn’t work when it came to him, in my opinion. I think we’ve made changes that I think put him in a good position to excel.”

It seems like the Patriots owner has a lot of trust in Mac Jones. However, the long-term head coach Belichick doesn’t seem to share the same opinion about him. During the last week’s Annual League Meetings, Belichick made it clear that he hasn’t committed to Mac Jones as the Patriots’ starting QB in the 2023 season.
