Bill Cowher SAVEGELY hits back at the Colts by calling Jeff Saturday’s hiring as HC an ‘absolute disgrace’
The NFL is one of the world’s most valuable leagues and every single team is worth over a billion dollars. Millions of people follow this sport and each team has countless fans who buy season tickets every year. So it came as a surprise to everyone when Jeff Saturday was announced as the interim head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.
Colts owner Jim Irsay took the decision and announced it quite recently through a press conference. Every analyst was shell-shocked after hearing the news as Saturday didn’t have any previous experience coaching big teams. The new Colts HC has never coached an NFL football team or even a college football team.
Bill Cowher of NFL Today was extremely disappointed with the decision and decided to hit back at the Colts for the big mishap that can cost them a lot in the future.
“I know for a fact that Jeff Saturday was offered an opportunity to become an assistant coach with the Indianapolis Colts multiple times in the last four years. He declined, citing he had a TV job and wanted to spend more time with his family,” Bill Cowher said. “I get it. Coaching is about commitment and it’s about sacrifice. It’s not just a job, it’s a lifestyle.”
Bill Cowher is an experienced coach himself as he has coached the Pittsburgh team for 15 years and knows what it takes to manage a big side, unlike Jeff Saturday.
Bill Cowher believes experience is important to thrive as an HC
Bill Cowher pointed out that there are much more qualified personnel in Colt’s dressing room who are more qualified for the job but are working as assistants currently. Cowher hit back at the Colts for overlooking John Fox and Gus Bradley, former NFL head coaches who are currently on the staff.
“For an owner to hire a coach, who has never been an assistant at the college level or the pro level, and overseeing, very much a lot of candidates that are qualified for that job as we see in Steve Wilks, an opportunity to build a resume, it’s a disgrace to the coaching profession,” Cowher said. “Regardless of how this thing plays out, what happened in Indianapolis is a travesty.”
Jeff Saturday was hired as the team’s consultant some time ago, but then he leaped to work as the head coach, while others more talented were overlooked in the process. The reason Jim Irsay hired Jeff Saturday is still unknown.
Jeff Saturday will need to come up with spectacular results and prove his worth in the league if he wants to survive. Though Saturday passed the first hurdle when the Colts won against the struggling Raiders in his first game, he will be tested when they face the Eagles in their next game.
