“Real Time” host Bill Maher is convinced that Taylor Swift will play a pivotal role in the upcoming presidential election. Maher insisted that if the pop star shows support for Joe Biden, he will become the overwhelming favorite to be re-elected as US President.

It’s quite unusual for someone like Maher to bring up a subject such as this. But being a liberal comedian, he tends to visualize a situation in a different tone from the general mass. And when the discussion is about Taylor Swift, one has to be extremely careful as to how they want to express their thoughts in a public forum.

Maher began a panel discussion on Friday on the widespread influence of the 14-time Grammy winner. Swift has kept herself away from politics for a while, but the 68-year-old believes that she can make or break the election.

I've hesitated to cover Taylor Swift. But I swear to God that this is a person who could literally swing the election.

Maher advised exercising caution while criticizing Swift

The 34-year-old is a global icon and a brand. Her songs constantly top several music charts, and as a result, she has a massive social media following. Her Instagram alone has more than 125 million subscribers, all of whom stand under the umbrella named ‘Swiftie.’

Maher advised the opposition of President Biden, the Republican’s more explicit advice to the followers of Donald Trump, to tread carefully when commenting about Swift. Now that’s another surprise—that the left-leaning Maher is giving suggestions to the right. Maybe as a joke. He addressed the MAGA (Make America Great Again),

I would just say to the MAGA people, you should be very careful attacking her because this is someone who transcends parties.

Well, not so long ago, prominent Trump supporter Vivek Ramaswamy took a jibe on X. Ramaswamy labeled Swift’s relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end as an ‘‘artificially propped up couple.”

Maher prefers to keep in touch with his surroundings and must have heard of the slander that the ‘cruel summer’ composer has come under recently. Keeping that and her massive following in mind, he added,

She could get so many people who are not registered... And she doesn't have to say who she's voting for! All she has to say is get registered. They know who she's voting for… So I think you could be a waking sleeping-until-the-afternoon giant here.

Before the last presidential election in 2020, Swift endorsed Biden. She never liked Trump, who, according to her, made life hell for women, women of color, and LGBTQ+ community members. The People Magazine in 2023 reported that an Instagram post from her saying “Fund-raising appeals from Ms. Swift could be worth millions of dollars for Mr. Biden” generated 35,000 registrations.
