A Buffalo Bills fan was seen wearing a customized shirt, which was a nod to O.J. Simpson when his team took on the New York Jets this Sunday. The number and the wording on the back of the unassuming piece of clothing have caught the attention of the socialites.
When the Bills were busy taking their Week 1 revenge over the Bills, the camera panned towards the stands of the Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. One of the Billsmafia wore a blue shirt that had the number 32 and “allegedly” written on it.
Buffalo may have won the game, but that rather interesting shirt has broken the internet. Many are left scratching their heads because of the choice of words by the individual.
What the Bills fan was trying to pull off was basically dark humor. And it worked. Few of the netizens managed to decipher the puzzle. It’s a shout to notorious former Hall of Fame running back O.J. Simpson, who dawned the same number for the Buffalo Bills for a decade (1969–1977).
Why did the Bills fan use the word “allegedly” in reference to O.J. Simpson?
Ornethal James Simpson became the center of controversy in 1994 when he was charged with the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. Dubbed the ‘trial of the century’ which took place a year later, in 1995, was widely covered by several media outlets and even became a global talking point.
At one point, it took a drastic turn and became a media trial by fire. Simpson’s attorney team, consisting of Robert Shapiro, Marcia Clark, and many others, argued that the accusation against the now-76-year-old was buried in race.
This is where the part “allegedly” comes into the fold. Prosecutors found a glove near the dead body and assumed it belonged to Simpson. However, it did not fit. So allegedly, he did or did not kill Nicole and Goldman.
Not only that, their main defense of Simpson was the lack of DNA evidence from the crime scene itself. After months of hearings, the Superior Court of California acquitted the former NFL running back of all the charges.
He has also been part of pop culture, starring in movies such as The Naked Gun (1991) and Adventures in Wonderland. His recent filmography includes Jail, in which he plays himself, and Who is America?
It was announced in 2018 that a movie based on O.J. Simpson, featuring Boris Kodje, would be released in theaters. That film has yet to see daylight. He is currently a free man and occasionally makes appearances on various podcasts and YouTube videos.
