The Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins went harsh against the NFL referees. This season, the referring decisions have been subjected to a lot of controversies. Players were fined, and they openly expressed their agony over ‘poor’ decisions. In addition, some players also complained about not getting calls at the right moment and at the right time.
Appearing on the CBS Sports’ Zach Gelb podcasting show, the OT suggested some harsh penalties for the referees. He suggested that like the players, the referees also need to be fined for wrong decisions. The OT also put forth that referees need to be accountable for their decisions.
It's ridiculous. So I don't want to take no shots at the officials because they're not all bad. And there is things that go missed and some that need to be seen, and I understand it, and they're not perfect. But man, if we can get fined for little things, I just feel like everybody should be held accountable.
While uttering the words, the OT pointed his finger at a clip that revealed him being called for holding a Kansas City Chiefs player in a move. It took place in the game between the Bills and the Chiefs last Sunday. Dawkins believes he did not deserve a call for the challenge against Kadarius Toney.
In the same game, the referees canceled a touchdown drive by Kadarius Toney. It was a game-winning drive that got canceled. The decision received a lot of media attention.
Dawkins might have a point
Dawkins might have a point, as many players received some harsh decisions throughout the tournament. It started with Dawkins’ quarterback Josh Allen getting fined for showing a finger to a Cincinnati Bengals player while completing a touchdown. He was fined more than $10,000 unsportsmanship grounds.
The streak continued as players like Tyreek Hill, Sauce Gardner, Breece Hall, and others were fined for various reasons. The players openly raised their concerns over poor decisions that had financial impacts on them.
Considering all these, the OT added:
You know if they throw a flag and it's holding, and we review it, and it's not holding, they should get fined. And if Tony is offside, and he wants to appeal it, and it's not then it should be reversed or something should happen but it's just not fair.
It is to be seen if the OT receives any disciplinary action for these remarks he made on the podcasting show. The NFL has gone very strict this year so far.
