What a Monday night football game it was! Started with a Josh Allen turnover on the very first pass and ended with confusion from the referees, with Russell Wilson securing his 17th touchdown of the season as the Denver Broncos narrowly escaped their sixth defeat.

The Boulder Country franchise was coming off a bye week and was hoping to add to their 2-game win streak. In front of them was a misfiring and unpredictable Buffalo Bills team that could either destroy defenses or make it a punt fest.

Unlike Denver, they lost their last match, which has left them in a precarious position. In a loaded AFC, almost every game is crucial to keeping pace with the likes of the Chiefs and the Dolphins. The Bills were the massive 79.5% favorite, according to the oddsmakers, to record a win. And it was looking like they would clinch it until the dying embers of the game.

With 35 seconds left on the clock and the score 21-22 in Bills’ favor, Wilson took the snap at 3rd and 10, launching one deep, aiming for Jerry Jeudy. Buffalo cornerback Taron Johnson stopped the pass from reaching Jeudy, but the referees saw an infringement and threw a yellow on the field. So Denver still had the ball, and it was 4th down.

Broncos kicker Will Lutz had the opportunity to win what could have possibly been the last touch of the game. The 29-year-old hit it from 41 yards but missed the right post by mere inches. Orchard Park thought that the Bills had won the game.

Unfortunately, the celebration was short-lived. The referee pulled the play back and announced that there were 12 blue shirts on the field. Upon replay, that was proven to be true, so the kick had to be retaken from 36 yards due to a 5-yard penalty. Lutz this time buried his second attempt, and the Broncos won 24-22.

Allen’s turnovers cost the Bills a win against Wilson’s Broncos

It’s the same old, same old for the Bills quarterback again this season. The 27-year-old may be considered one of the elites in the league, but his fatal flaw in giving away too many turnovers is causing his team to drop points.

Besides throwing one on the first pass, there were two more throughout the night. Well, the second one may not be entirely his fault. Staying in the first quarter on 3rd and 4th at the 8:30-minute mark, he threw one to Gabe Davis. But the ball ricocheted off of Davis’ left hand and ended up in the lap of Broncos safety Justin Simmons.

The next one, however, was a terrible pass. Near the end of the second quarter, Allen’s hopeful dart was picked off by cornerback Fabian Moreau. This was the two-time Pro Bowler’s 11th pick of this season.

Since 2019, he has thrown 63 interceptions, more than any other quarterback in that time. Josh Allen finished the game with 15/26 for 177 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. He also had 4 carries with the ball on the ground for 13 yards.

The Bills are still mathematically in contention for a playoff spot, but it will go down to the wire. Yesterday’s loss means that they are now 5-5 and next they will play AFC East rivals the New York Jets.
