Blake Proehl started out as a promising wide receiver for the East Carolina Pirates. But he always had a knack for music. So even when Proehl joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 after a successful trial, he never got detached from fiddling with his guitar.
The 25-year-old had a rocky start in Minnesota; after ending up on injured reserve, they waived him off. Later, the Vikings front office added Proehl to the PUP list in August 2022, activating him two months later. Yet he was waived once again and signed to the practice squad, eventually leaving before the start of the 2023 season.
Amidst his on-and-off NFL career, Proehl rediscovered his muse and began immersing himself in music. While he was still in rehab recovering from his ankle injury in 2021, he shared a video of him singing a song for his grandma.
A year later, in 2022, Blake Proehl released his first single titled “Falling Into You” on March 25. It was the collaboration of several rising stars, such as Rachel Gae, Spencer Hendricks, Kaitlin Stark, and a few others.
Proehl recently appeared in the selection stage of the 22nd edition of American Idol. His audition aired on February 18, 2024, in which he sang a beautiful rendition of Brett Young’s ‘In Case You Didn’t Know,’ alongside his nana. It was so well sung that judge Katy Perry was moved to tears and had goosebumps.
Blake Proehl is going to Hollywood
Maybe it was meant for him to be famous in football, but Blake Proehl could become the next American idol. Not only did he send shivers inside the set, but he also bagged the Golden Ticket straight to Hollywood. The host of the famous show, Ryan Seacrest, later tweeted to congratulate the WR-turned-musician.
Searcast summed up Proehl’s journey beautifully.

From former teammates to friends Fans of the young, rising singer congratulated him on social media.
Blake comes from a family associated with football. His father, Ricky Proehl, was an NFL wide receiver who played for the likes of the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Rams (Los Angeles Rams), and Indianapolis Colts. Ricky was a wider receiver and won two Super Bowls, one each with the Rams and the Colts. He also has another son named Austin Proehl, who is currently a free-agent WR after bouncing around in the NFL since 2018.
