Bo Nix has a strong message for people who blame players for losing money in football bets: “That’s your fault”

The hype around Nix was so much that Auburn fans put bets on the young QB for the LSU game which he eventually lost.

As the NFL Draft gets closer, rookie quarterbacks are not leaving any stones unturned to prove their worth and sign with the best possible place suited to their skill set. Oregon’s Bo Nix, one of those prospects who may not be in the same bracket as Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels, has an idea of which team could benefit from his addition.

Bo Nix revealed an interesting story from his freshman year when he played for the Auburn Tigers against the Oregon Ducks. The hype surrounding him compelled fans to place bets on him and the Tigers for the next game against LSU in Week 8 of the 2019 season.

However, Auburn lost to LSU by a narrow 20-23 scoreline, in which Nix threw 15 of 35 passes for 157 yards and one late touchdown. The fans weren’t happy with the results, so he had to face a lot of heat afterward. Nix did not say much back then, but while appearing on Robert Griffin III‘s podcast, RG3 and the Ones, Nix claimed he never asked anyone to place bets.

We lost to the #1 LSU team in 2019 that won the National Championship... It was one of those couple losses that I was getting requests for [off-venmo]. I didn’t place the bet. That was your fault.

Even though nothing is set in stone on which round a player may be selected, the consensus is that Nix won’t be a top-10 pick. Yet that hasn’t deterred quarterback-needy teams from measuring out his talent.

Leading the race are the Denver Broncos, who, after the failed spell of Russell Wilson, are looking for a fresh face. Mile High is also one of the top destinations for Nix because he wants to learn from an offensive guru like Sean Payton.

Talking to Robert Griffin III on RG3 and the Ones, Bo Nix also revealed that he grew up watching Drew Brees and Payton dominate the league.

That would be a blast. Playing for a coach [Sean Payton] like that who has been so important for the offensive game. He's known a lot for what he and Drew Brees did together. It was a quick game—getting the ball out, timing stuff—that I love to do. That's what we did great here at Oregon.

Does Bo Nix fit the Broncos?

Compared to some of the other quarterbacks in the draft, the Ducks under center is a year older, much more mature, and ready to step up. At 24, he has the experience and the accuracy, along with the arm talent, that may encourage Sean Payton to pursue him in the draft. If the veteran head coach is searching for a Brees-like player, Nix fits the bill.

However, there are always a few pitfalls in the draft, and this is no exception. Tankathon revealed that the Broncos hold the No. 12 pick, which could come in handy when selecting Nix. Then again, it won’t hurt them if they trade him down and draft him.

Back in February at the NFL Combine, Payton revealed that he always looks for a few qualities in a quarterback before selecting them: how well and quickly they can adapt to his system, how fast they can release the ball, and their awareness of the blitz. Nix told RG3 that he can visualize Payton’s philosophy.

I love to do that. That's what we did so well at Oregon—an extension of the running game.

The speculation is that the Broncos may approach the Indianapolis Colts to trade their No. 15 pick. Shane Steichen already drafted a quality quarterback in the form of Anthony Richardson and added veteran Joe Flacco through free agency.

If the Broncos decide to deal with the Colts, then they could land either linebacker Terrion Arnold from Alabama or offensive lineman Troy Fautanu from Washington. Then go ahead and get Bo Nix at 15.
