“Everybody thought it was FAKE”: Bobby Wagner’s text FINESSED Rams GM Les Snead into signing him

In the NFL offseason, when a player is usually looking to go to a new team, he conveys the same to his agent and the agent is the one who pretty much takes care of everything from that point onwards. But some people like to take things in their own hands, like Lamar Jackson who represents himself and the newest player to do so is Bobby Wagner, the former Seattle Seahawks LB who signed with the Los Angeles Rams this offseason.

Wagner is a legend in the Seattle region and rightly so, the linebacker has had some of the most iconic plays and was one of the top dogs when the Legion of Boom defense was in place. Considering Seattle is rebuilding, Bobby wanted to stay there but the contract negotiations just did not work which led him to becoming a free agent. The Los Angeles Rams who were signing numerous star players with experience in the middle of last season and this season decided to take advantage of this and signed Wagner, but it was not that simple.

Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead thought he was being trolled when Bobby Wagner texted him:

Following his release from the Seahawks, Bobby Wagner began to reach out to teams across the league on his own, one of the things you have to do when you represent yourself. You’d think the man’s resume speaks for itself and he would not even need to put himself out there but no matter how good you are, you have to put yourself out there.

The Super Bowl champ began to text teams across the NFL stating that he was looking for a new team and also made it clear that he represents himself so if any team wishes to talk contract, then they should reach out to him. Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead was one of the people who received this message but it did not sit well with him and he suspected that he was being played.

Les Snead told the LA Times that it was something that he had never come across, a top linebacker texting him first and offering his services? That does not sound like something an NFL player would do. Snead shares his immediate reaction after getting that message, “I think he(Bobby Wagner) signed off as Bwagz, I was like, ‘OK, is this real?’, “Eveybody thought it was a fake.”

Bobby Wagner was nor surprised when he was asked to confirm if it was actually him or it was someone playing a prank on the Rams and to Les Snead’s relief, it was the man himself. Well, we know what happened after that. Bobby Wagner signed with the Rams for $65 million.

If anything, this is an interesting situation and just shows that always put yourself out there, irrespective of your resume, do not ever let your past achievements get in the way of your future endeavors! By reaching out himself, Wagner may have just gotten himself a ticket to the next Super Bowl!
