The Super Bowl LVII was a grand success, as the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs lived up to its billing. The biggest game of the season was played exactly how it should be played with the Chiefs slightly edging it in the end by a 38-35 margin.
The Chiefs were deemed as the underdogs heading into the Super Bowl despite having a dream run up until that stage. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes won the NFL MVP award for the second time in his career after a tremendous showing throughout the season, and was one of the primary reasons for their success.
However, the path to glory wasn’t easy, as the 27-year-old had to brave an ankle injury for most of their playoff games. He suffered the injury against the Jaguars during the divisional round but carried on playing in the second half.
He wasn’t at his physical best even against the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game, carrying the after-effects of that particular injury. A two-week break before the Super Bowl did help his ankle, but he seemed to have a re-aggravation of the same ankle injury during the game against the Eagles.

Just before the halftime break, the quarterback hobbled off the gridiron but again showed immense bravery and passion to overcome the pain. He led the Chiefs’ incredible comeback in the second half after being down by a margin of 24-10 in the first half.
Not everyone was pleased though, with the fact that Mahomes played on despite his injury. Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler, who is a self-proclaimed Eagles fan took a shot at the Chiefs for playing him irrespective of his ailing health.
Speaking on the recent episode of ‘Cutler Cast’ podcast, the four times Mr. Olympia winner said, “I was really disappointed man. The Eagles came out strong, and I, you know I was gonna lay it all on Mahomes and the Chiefs… he had an injury you know, had a high ankle strain, that they were talking about. I know in athletics when you are that talented, it’s kind of hard to hold someone… The quarterbacks win the Super Bowl you know.”
“But Hurts… Man, I was a little disappointed, I almost pulled the trigger to go the Chiefs way, and you know at the end I kinda just looked at the Eagles… It was a nail-biter. It came down to the end, It came down to the wire”.
Whether Jay Cutler approves of the move or not, Mahomes was justly rewarded for his heroics as he added a second Lombardi Trophy to his glittering resume.
