It’s like Deja Vu all over in Boston once again. Exactly four years after Tom Brady was practically forced to leave the New England Patriots despite having won a Super Bowl in 2019.

It was the culmination of factors such as increasing frustration with HC Bill Belichick and the front office not taking input from him concerning the team’s roster, and more importantly, the team’s continued reluctance to offer him a big payday despite everything he had done for them.

Bill Belichick and Tom Brady’s straining relationship was cited as the primary reason for the legendary QB’s exit, and as a result, Belichick and the Patriots, including Robert Kraft, were portrayed in a negative light. Now, four years on, Bill Belichick finds himself in the same situation, with the entire Patriots fanbase and the media turning against him and asking for him to be fired.

Tom Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following season, and as fans know, the rest is history. He went on to win his seventh Super Bowl title and make more history.

The Boston Herald, in its print edition, posted Brady on the front page with the headline “Time for him to go.”

This gives rise to an interesting question: Should one terrible season be the determining factor for the team to part ways with the greatest head coach of all time?

Granted, Belichick has struggled since Tom Brady’s departure, but it has to be noted that he has struggled to find a QB. Neither Bailey Zappe nor Mac Jones have shown that they can be consistent.

They have their moments but cannot perform at a high level in every game. The team’s offense has been mediocre at best.

The team has wide receivers who will get the job done if utilized properly, but how can one expect wideouts to fare well when the person throwing the ball to them is not doing their job well?

Bill Belichick has been the HC and the GM of the team. This season, one thing was evident: defensively, the team is sound.

Yes, there have been games wherein teams have blown them out, but one thing that has to be considered is that if the offense keeps turning the ball over again and again, it adds more burden to the defense.

Should Bill Belichick be given another chance to make things right? Well, the answer is much more complicated than it should be.

In a perfect world, the team must consider hiring a competent GM and retaining Belichick as the HC to see how it would pan out. But that is unlikely to happen because it would amount to disrespect; after all, it sends a message that the team no longer has faith in him to make the right roster decisions.

If it does pan out as well, the next challenge will be: can Bill Belichick work with the new GM in situations where the two are not on the same page?

Who makes the final decision in those situations? Ultimately, as long as Robert Kraft does not repeat the same mistakes he did when Tom Brady left the Patriots, the situation should be fine.
