“Awful and honestly tough”: Former NFL QB Brady Quinn accuses the media of coddling Zach Wilson
Zach Wilson and Brady Quinn
Zach Wilson is set to show us a different side of his this season and no, we are not talking about his off-the-field balling but on-the-field. The New York Jets quarterback had a rough rookie season as he was unable to stay healthy throughout the year but in the games that he did play, we saw some potential in him and some sparks of stardom. Wilson has been injured yet again as he suffered a knee injury in his first preseason game this year.
He recently underwent surgery successfully and is expected to be available on the opening night of the regular season. The QB has gotten a lot of praise from the media and the New York Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh who spoke highly about him this offseason. Despite all the praise, there is one critic who views Wilson as a bust, it is none other than former NFL QB Brady Quinn.

Brady Quinn believes the New York Jets are overhyping Zach Wilson:
Brady Quinn is a former first-round pick who rose to fame due to his plays at Notre Dame, he started 20 games in the NFL and has been out of the league for over a decade. Quinn had some strong words for Zach Wilson as he called him an extremely overhyped player. “I have not seen a quarterback get more love for doing less,” Quinn puts it.
Following Wilson’s injury that is set to keep him out for 2-4 weeks, Quinn stated on Fox Sports Radio that the Jets QB was “awful” in the preseason opener against the Eagles and went on to critique him for staring at one of his wideouts while calling a play. He essentially alerted the defense of the play and ended up throwing an interception on that play, Quinn described it as a rookie move, “That’s a day one, game one, year one blunder.”
The former NFL star feels that the media has been too soft on Zach Wilson, “Can we acknowledge, once again, the media just continually tries to make it something? They want so badly for this to work out, and it’s kind of tough, honestly, to listen to.” He feels that there has seen no quarterback who has gotten this amount of fanfare and appreciation for doing essentially nothing. “I’ve not seen a quarterback get more love for doing less from the media than Zach Wilson in a long time, it’s really weird.”
Quinn feels that Zach is yet to prove that he is even worthy of being a starter, it is likely that people go soft on him because he has been put in a rough situation, he was drafted by the Jets, one of the worst teams in the league and to expect immediate results from him may not be ideal. One has to also keep in mind that he does not really have any weapons on the offense. There is not a single Pro Bowler on the Jets’ offense which really shows that the team is in need of some receivers.
