Last Monday, American country music singer and songwriter Toby Keith passed away after his long battle with stomach cancer. And now, his longtime friend and former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has recalled the heartbreaking conversation he had with the country artist just a couple of weeks before his death.

In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre — who was recently involved in a welfare scandal — revealed that he used to check up on Keith every two or three weeks after the singer got diagnosed with stomach cancer. Favre further revealed Keith told him that he felt tired because of his battle with cancer and that he was okay with whatever happened.

I think in the end, he was just tired. He did say that to me when we had our conversation. He said, ‘Brett, whatever happens, I’m OK with it.

Furthermore, Favre also disclosed that Toby Keith quit chemotherapy since he was very tired in the end. Keith was also thankful that he was able to finish his shows before he got too sick, according to the former Packers signal-caller.

He said, ‘I quit chemo and it probably did more damage to me than the cancer did. And he said, ‘I just hope I didn’t quit it too late, but… I’m thankful I got a chance to play some shows. I finished them.’

Favre struck up a friendship with Toby Keith in the 90s and were close with each other till the ‘Red Solo Cup’ singer passed away on February 5. During their older days, they also used to play golf together and created some memories.

Favre described Keith as a ‘fun’ and ‘entertaining’ friend to hang out with and added ‘he was the best’. Nonetheless, apart from Favre, friends, families, and fans continue to mourn the death of the celebrated country music artist.
