The Tennessee Titans surprised the football world by firing their excellent head coach Mike Vrabel. The sack happened after the end of the regular season. Even more shocking than that was who they hired to replace him. Brian Callahan, who helped the Cincinnati Bengals reach the Super Bowl as their offensive coordinator, was named as the Titans’ head coach going forward.
The Titans had a poor season, but they were also one of the best teams in the conference under Vrabel. In his six seasons with the team, the former Houston Texans’ DC led the Titans to a 54-45 record and three playoff berths. He was one win away from taking the Titans to the Super Bowl in 2019 when they lost in the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Callahan leaves the Bengals after serving as the offensive coordinator for the team from 2019 to 2023. It included the Bengals’ fairy-tale Super Bowl run.
Callahan is well-known for having helped quarterback Joe Burrow. Callahan helped Burrow develop into one of the NFL’s best passers. He has also received praise for getting outstanding performance out of Jake Browning in the previous season following Burrow’s wrist injury.
The former Bengals’ OC will now focus on developing the Titans’ QB, Will Levis, and bringing the Titans back to the playoffs. Ran Carthon joins Callahan as the team’s new GM. The Titans also promoted Chad Brinker to President of Football Operations.
Fans have mixed feelings about the Titans hiring Brian Callahan to replace Mike Vrabel as their head coach
After six seasons in charge, the Tennessee Titans fired their head coach, Mike Vrabel, and replaced him with the Cincinnati Bengals’ OC, Brian Callahan. It surprised a lot of people as Vrabel had a very successful tenure with the Titans. However, Callahan remains a worthy candidate as he has led a very potent Bengals offense since 2019.
He will now look to do the same in Tennessee with young QB Will Levis. A lot of fans though, have mixed feelings about this hire. Some feel it’s the right move, whereas others think that the Titans made a mistake by hiring Callahan. Here are some of the reactions.
The Titans finished the season with a record of 6-11. It was their worst season under Vrabel and that proved to be his downfall. They will hope that Callahan has the same impact with Levis as he had with Bengals’ superstar QB Joe Burrow.
