Brian Schottenheimer claims the Cowboys will ask ex-49ers QB Trey Lance about inside ‘information’ to prepare for the all-important matchup this week
Lance, originally a prized acquisition for the 49ers, was traded to the Cowboys for a fourth-round pick just before the season began.

The upcoming encounter between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers will be one of the most mouthwatering clashes ever. It will be a game between the Cowboys’ defense vs the 49ers’ offense. The 49ers are unbeaten this season while the Cowboys have just lost only one game out of four. The 49ers’ offense led by Brock Purdy has been pivotal in securing the victory while the Cowboys’ defense just gave away 13 points in three games that they won.
The match will also be a homecoming game for the former San Francisco star Trey Lance whom the Dallas traded this season. The Cowboys are planning to utilize him in this match. Not directly, but in an indirect way. The offensive coordinator of the Cowboys, Brian Schottenheimer, revealed the plan. In an interview with NBC Sports Bay Area, the OC said, “The cool thing is, like I said, the [Cowboys] know them well, I know them well from being in Seattle, Trey knows them well.”
Surprisingly, the OC said that in their last encounter, Ezekiel Elliott helped the New England Patriots get rid of the Cowboys. However, that help did not do much as the Cowboys won by a margin of 38-3.
“Like last week, it’s kind of in good fun and humor. We all use pieces that we have in place, but we don’t go too far into it. We can know exactly what they’re going to do, because they don’t do too much, and they’re still really, really tough to go against just because they’re so talented,” Schottenheimer said.
“We’ll definitely talk to Trey. He knows a lot of the pieces going against them in practice, but it doesn’t always help, as we learned [Sunday against the Cowboys],” he added.
Trey Lance’s trade caused controversy this offseason
This offseason, the Cowboys traded Trey Lance from the San Francisco 49ers and it created huge controversy. Lance was not having his best time on the team due to injuries and the speedy growth of ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ Brock Purdy. Considering this an opportunity, veteran billionaire and the general manager of the team, Jerry Jones, quickly traded him.

What astonished everyone was that Jones did not ask Head Coach Mike McCarthy or the starting QB Dak Prescott about the move. He let McCarthy know after the deal was done. However, it did not surprise Prescott, as he admitted about the same.
