The San Francisco 49ers rookie sensation Brock Purdy suffered an elbow injury during the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The 49ers went on to lose the game while playing their 4th string QB, but it looks like things will get worse for the San Francisco-based football team.

Brock Purdy recently interviewed with Yahoo Sports about his recovery from the injury. During the interview, the 23-year-old signal-caller dropped a bomb that he’s not sure he’ll be able to play in the 2023 season, as he’s taking the recovery one day at a time.

When the Yahoo Sports reporter Jori Epstein asked the QB if he could take the field in September, Purdy replied, “Not really sure, honestly.”  Purdy then explained how he feels now after removing the brace that made him look like he had a mechanical arm.

“Just to be able to get out of the brace, move around more frequently, and stuff like that — I know it sounds small, but that’s a big win. That’s how I look at it: Finding little things like that to be positive about and understand you have what it takes to get back to being yourself on the field,” said Purdy.

Well, it looks like the QB would miss significant time. Purdy is the first in the 49ers camp to say he might not be available during the first few weeks of the 2023 season.

Despite his injury, quarterback Brock Purdy plans to attend the San Francisco 49ers‘ voluntary training camp, starting this week. But he won’t be doing any heavy work.

“Just being back around the guys, continue my rehab, and get after the playbook,” he told The Athletic. “So it will be simple in that regard.” During his absence, the 49ers’ former first-round pick Trey Lance and the newly added QB Sam Darnold will take the first-team reps.

Despite the QB competition, Purdy also revealed that Trey Lance has constantly been checking on him and has reached out to him since his elbow surgery. “We obviously want what’s best for each other,” said Purdy. “We’re in a lot of contact, texting each other all the time. It’s been great.”

Nevertheless, Brock Purdy should be focused on his recovery instead of rushing onto the field. He has already proven that he can lead an NFL franchise, and even if he loses his job to Trey Lance, Purdy will get a starting QB job with many other teams.
