The San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy has had a fantastic season that has catapulted him into the MVP conversations. His poise and accuracy, combined with Kyle Shanahan‘s masterful schemes has taken the league by storm. He has led the Niners to a record of 11-3 and has clinched their division with three games still remaining in the season. The legendary Niners receiver Jerry Rice had high praise for Purdy.
Rice, who played with one of the best quarterbacks in league history, Joe Montana, knows a lot about elite quarterback play. He and Montana created magic in San Francisco for seven years. He sees a lot of Montana in Purdy as he spoke highly about the quarterback on Fred Warner‘s podcast.
Rice said about Purdy’s composure and accuracy:
Brock reminds me a lot of Montana, his coolness. He doesn't get rattled. You need your quarterback to be that way."Jerry Rice on Brock Purdy
Purdy still has a lot to accomplish to be considered in the same category as Montana. However, according to Rice, Purdy has all the tools to reach that level and will have a great career in the NFL.
Purdy so far this season has thrown for 3,795 yards, 29 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He has completed 69.8 percent of his passes and has a rating of 119.0. He and the Niners will look to continue their stellar season and go all the way to the Super Bowl.
Jerry Rice hopes to see Christian McCaffrey break the single-season TD record
The legendary San Francisco 49ers’ wideout, Jerry Rice, holds the franchise’s record for most touchdowns in a season with 23. One player who has a chance to break that record is Niners’ RB Christian McCaffrey, who has 20 touchdowns through 15 weeks. He needs four touchdowns in three games to break the record. Given McCaffrey’s form this season, the possibility of him breaking the record this season is very high.
Rice himself would love to see the rusher break the record this season. Rice added on Fred Warner’s podcast.
Yes. Because I believe records are meant to be broken. What he brings to the table – I’m talking about from scrimmage, from rushing the ball, from catching the ball, scoring touchdowns – he does it all, man.
The 27-year-old running back has 1,292 rushing yards and 509 receiving yards this season. He has also scored 13 rushing touchdowns and 7 receiving touchdowns so far this season and is vying to break the record in the remaining three games.
