The NFC Championship Game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions was nothing but a high-voltage thriller. The Lions would be understandably in grief as they lost a game that they were an inch close to winning.

The Lions took a hefty 14-point lead in the first quarter. In the second, they garnered 10 more points against the Niners’ seven. With 24-7 on the scoreline in the halftime, the visiting Lions’ fans thought that they had won it. Little did they had any idea that a clutch third quarter for the Niners would change the scenario completely.

In the post-game presentation, Brock Purdy explained the moment in front of the press, particularly a third-quarter play in question. He said that he did not regret taking the high risk at that moment. He knew the throw was not perfect, but to lift his team from the odds, he had to throw the ball like that.

Yeah, that moment I was looking at like we need to play. Not gonna be stupid just throw the ball up but be one-on-one. I am gonna take that up. Especially in that kind of game, we need that kind of play. Yeah, people can say what they want, but I was giving my guy a shot, and it worked out.

It all started with a field goal from Jake Moody and was later followed by a touchdown pass from Purdy to Brandon Aiyuk. The Lions’ defense would forever lament not to intercept that pass.

Purdy slightly overthrew the ball that was aimed at Aiyuk and it directly hit the face mask of the Lions’ defender. Aiyuk, who failed to get hold of the ball at the first attempt, bagged it with his second attempt and quickly completed the play. It was a touchdown for the Niners. The first one is for Purdy, who was silent throughout the game except for this particular moment.

Another Christian McCaffrey show, this time in the Championship round

Purdy did not have a game set to his standard. He had a touchdown and was intercepted once. While the stage was set for him, it was Christian McCaffrey who came to the team’s rescue again.

Like the divisional round, McCaffrey had a two-touchdown game in the NFC Championship game as well. In the second quarter, a touchdown play from McCaffrey earned the team’s first points. In the third quarter, his other TD equaled the score with the Lions and set the final comeback in motion. McCaffrey ended the night with 90 rushing yards.

The San Francisco 49ers would now be playing the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs on February 11. It will be a different challenge for the Niners as the Chiefs have not given away 30 points for the last two years. It is to be seen how one of the best offenses in the NFL combat the second-best defense in the game for the coveted Lombardi trophy.
