Football is a physical sport, and injuries happen quite often on the field. Although there are very rare instances where the player gets injured off the field.
Aaron Patrick tore his ACL in the game against the Chargers on October 17 due to excessive equipment on the sidelines. The turf sidelines are usually crowded with people that include the coaches, cheerleaders, and cameramen. There are also countless pieces of equipment on the sidelines that can falter someone’s health.
Patrick was trying to tackle the Chargers’ punt receiver. The Broncos LB then stepped on the mats covering the equipment cables and tripped as he collided with NFL’s TV liaison.
This resulted in Patrick getting injured as he rolled his leg during the collision. And now with reference to this unfortunate incident, the Broncos LB recently filed a lawsuit against the NFL, SoFi Stadium, Hollywood Parkland Company LLC, Stockbridge, The Flesher Group, Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, and the Chargers.
Patrick is suing all the above for negligence in allowing a dangerous condition. “Upon stepping on one of the mats, [Patrick’s] cleats became lodged in the mat and/or the cords/cables running underneath and caused [Patrick’s] left knee to contort causing (him) to fall awkwardly,” Aaron Patrick’s lawsuit reads.

Aaron Patrick is out for the remainder of the season
Aaron Patrick was quite unfortunate as he tripped over the wires and eventually collided with the NFL liaison. However, this is not the first time a player has sued the team for an injury. Former RB Reggie Bush did the same thing when he injured his lateral meniscus after he slipped on the concrete. The former RB then filed a lawsuit against the Rams and was paid $12.45 million in damages.
Patrick’s lawsuit alleges, per the press release, “The defendants were negligent in their operations of SOFI STADIUM in allowing a dangerous condition to exist by having three mats placed near the sideline to cover cords/cables that led to the feed for the instant NFL’s replay monitor.”
The Broncos LB has decided to file a lawsuit because he is out for the whole season after he suffered an ACL injury that wasn’t even his fault. Patrick wants to get back at everyone who crowds the sidelines without any reason of being there.
Player safety should be a big priority for the NFL as each player rakes in millions of dollars of wages and even the slightest injury can put them out for the whole season considering the physicality of the game.
