Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is excited about the 2023 NFL season and believes it can be Deshaun Watson’s year. Stefanski says he is pleased with Watson’s attitude during the Browns OTAs.
The 27-year-old quarterback had an uneventful debut campaign after his move from the Houston Texans last year. But according to Stefnaski, things might change in 2023. He highlighted that there’s an “elite-level player” in Deshaun Watson, and he “has seen glimpses” of it during his limited playtime.
Stefanski claims that the Browns, as a team, did not perform well. Putting the entire blame on Watson is not the correct approach. He believes they failed to compensate for Watson’s absence from the team. However, when Watson did eventually start, they were much better and more in control. For the uninitiated, the three-time Pro Bowler played six games in 2022 with a 3-3 record.
The new season will be a fresh start, and Stefanski is all praise for Watson’s work ethic, calling him “a gym rat.” “He’s gonna be the guy who’s gonna lead from the front, and I don’t see that wavering one bit,” said Stefanski while appearing on the Rich Eisen Show. Moreover, he also mentions that “the guy (Deshaun Watson) has taken everything (during training) that we’ve thrown at him.”
Well, Watson needs to bring his A-game if he wants to keep true to all the heaping praise the coach has for him. For that to happen, the 2016 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm winner has to shake off his recent controversies.
Will the Browns new tactical offensive changes help Deshaun Watson?

Further into the episode, the host, Tom Pelissero, talked about Deshaun Watson mentioning in a previous interview that the Browns have been running various offensive changes. Pelissero then asked Coah Stefanski whether these new tactics would improve the team and Watson’s game or not.
He replied, “Every year you have to change, adapt, and evolve. and we have spent a lot of time in the offseason working on things that we haven’t majored in. But at the end of the day, there’s no end to the amount of football that he (Watson) plays.” Stefanski further added that every player is getting up to speed, and Deshaun Watson is at the forefront.
Well, the 2020 NFL passing yards leader will not be the only one fighting for a playoff spot in the AFC North. The first in line is Cincinnati Bengals and Joe Burrow. With all the recent comparisons between the two, it won’t be a surprise if things start getting heated when they face off.
Besides Burrow, the biggest challenges the Broncos will face are the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson. The 2019 NFL MVP will be looking for revenge after a humiliating 3-13 defeat at First Energy Stadium last season.
