BetOnline, a famous online betting organization released a list of starting quarterbacks (QBs) who are in a position to lose their starting jobs in the coming NFL season due to their poor performance in the past few seasons. The organization claimed that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield is most likely to lose his starting job due to his performance.
He is followed by some other names like Sam Howell, who plays for the Washington Commanders, Ryan Tannehill, who plays for the Tennessee Titans, CJ Stroud, who plays for the Houston Texans, and Mac Jones, who plays for the New England Patriots.
The list also said that players like Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow have the least chance of losing their jobs. It ranked Mahomes at the last since he was the MVP winner last season and was simply phenomenal on the ground for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Baker Mayfield was selected as the first-choice quarterback for the team after Tom Brady announced his retirement. The selection was brutally trolled by the Tampa Bay fans as Mayfield comes nowhere in comparison to Brady.
Performances of Mayfield and others in the past few seasons
Analyzing the past few seasons in the NFL, it can be said that the five quarterbacks who ranked among one to five on the list were disappointing their past few seasons, especially in their last season. Mayfield finished his last season with a passing completion rate of 63%. He completed only 850 yards, had 4 touchdowns, and only two interceptions. Howell, on the other hand, had a passing completion rate of 57.9% and completed 169 yards.
Ryan Tannehill was slightly better than Mayfield and Howell. He had a passing completion rate of 65.2% and completed 2,536 yards. He had 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. Considering the performances of these players, it is evident that these players are nowhere in comparison to the best chunks of QBs like Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Aaron Rodgers.
Hence there are possibilities that these players may have a bad future in their clubs. However, the possibilities are directly dependent on the trading opportunities that they have. Baker Mayfield will begin his NFL 2023 season on September 9. It is now to be seen whether Mayfield gets a start.
