Cardinals safety Budda Baker shocks NFL with trade request, generates potential interest from other teams

Budda Baker is surely turning himself into one of the best safeties in the league. Ever since he was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, the safety has been a force to be reckoned with.
The 27-year-old has spent his entire career in Arizona. Therefore, many were taken by surprise when Baker decided to request a trade away from the Cardinals.
Baker had signed a contract in 2020 till the 2024 season. However, he decided to call it quits just before the 2023 season starts. The primary reason for his trade away from the Cardinals is still not known. However, many assume that it can be due to the absence of former HC Kliff Kingsbury who was fired at the end of the last season. He is replaced by rookie HC Jonathan Gannon.
The Cardinals safety had an illustrious career with the team where he was selected in two first-team All-Pro and was also a 5-time Pro Bowler. Apart from that, his stats were also exceptional with the team. Baker recorded 650 tackles, 34 deflections, 7 interceptions, and 6 forced fumbles throughout his career with the Cardinals. These stats helped him become one of the best in the NFL.
Interestingly, Budda Baker isn’t the only high-profile player who’s asked for a move away from the team. Prolific WR DeAndre Hopkins also recently asked to be traded away from the Cardinals.
Budda Baker can acquire potential interest from many NFL teams
There are many teams in the NFL currently who will be looking for a talented safety who can secure the defense of their team. They won’t have to look far as Budda Baker has just become available and can be an explosive unit in the defense.
It is reported that many teams will be lining up to acquire his signature, including the Super Bowl LVII finalists, Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have lost C.J. Gardner-Johnson and can replace him with Baker with the right price tag.
However, the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts are strongly speculated to be his next destination. The Bears have around $35 million in salary space and can easily accommodate the safety. On the other hand, the Colts have a much lesser salary space with $22.4 million. However, they have a strong reason as they just lost CB Stephon Gilmore to the Cowboys and will need someone to replicate his leadership.
Budda Baker‘s future in the NFL is still unknown as there have been no official trade talks between teams for him. It is also likely that he’ll stay with the Cardinals for the next season as well.
