“It’s a shakedown”: Matt Araiza’s lawyer terms rape allegations as an attempt to derail his NFL career

Matt Araiza or infamously known as the ‘Punt God’ has taken a big hit to his reputation and not because of an act that he did on the field but due to an incident that occurred in the past when he was a student at San Diego University. The Buffalo Bills rookie allegedly raped a girl during an off-campus party and a civil lawsuit has been filed for the same in the court of San Diego County.
It is alleged that Matt Araiza approached the girl when she was alone and offered her a drink that was spiked with drugs that inotxoicated her and she lost consciousness. After this, Araiza reportedly escorted the girl to his room where he raped her, to make matters worse, the girl was a minor when this incident took place. Araiza has not publicly made any comment.
Matt Araiza was not allowed to play in the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers:
The Associated Press reports that ther were a total of three persons which means Araiza was not the only one who raped her, the other two accused are Zavier Leonard and Nowlin Ewaliko but the two are yet to be arrested. Matt Araiza’s lawyer released a statement earlier today dismissing the accusations against his client. There are many questions that have risen after the allegations against the punter.
The timing is questionable as this incident happened six months ago, when Araiza was not in the NFL so he cannot be punished under the league’s personal conduct policy but the of course he will be punishable under law. Matt Araiza’s lawyer has dismissed the allegations and claimed that it is nothing but an attempt to derail his client’s professional football career.
He had this to say, “It’s a shakedown because he’s now with the Buffalo Bills, there is no doubt in my mind that Matt Araiza ever raped that girl,” Kerry Armstrong who represents Matt expressed total confidence in his client and claims that all of this may be nothing more than an attempt to extort his client. Keep in mind that usually athletes prefer to settle such cases and the settlement involves a hefty amount, one cannot rule that out but you cannot completely disregard the allegations against Araiza as they are serious.
Matt Araiza recently won the starter’s job for the Buffalo Bills, he had an amazing 82-yard punt that had fans in awe last week, the case is yet to be heard in front of the court and neither the victim nor have the other two accused made any public comments.
