Ex-Eagles safety C. J. Gardner Johnson accuses Deebo Samuel of being ‘soft’ during the pre-game fight between the 49ers and Browns players only to get threatened by the 49ers WR
From brawling at the dawg pound to engaging in a war of wits on social media

C.J. Gardner Johnson took no prisoners while mocking Deebo Samuel as the pregame scuffle on Sunday between the Cleveland Browns and the San Francisco 49ers spread on social media. Deebo returned the favor.
The funny thing is that the Detroit Lions were not even part of the conversation until Johnson picked a beef against 49ers receiver Samuel. Inside the comforts of his home, while recovering from a torn pectoral muscle, the Lions safety shared a short clip of the scuffle on X (formerly Twitter).
Johnson ridiculed Samuel for starting a mini-brawl after headbutting and sneaking out of the scene of the crime. It’s fair to say that maneuver tickled C.J.’s funny bone, and he couldn’t resist poking fun at Samuel. Not only did he write, “Typical WR behavior,” but he also piled up the argument with, “Then act hard when Trent [Williams] saves him.”
Not long after, Samuel clapped back at Gardner Johnson. He tweeted a video of Johnson’s New Orleans Saints days in which he got punched by a Chicago Bears player. “Boy, stop playing before you get a rewind of this. Boy, sit down,” the 27-year-old wrote. “Is this a challenge?“
The war of words has continued, much to the delight of social media users. Johnson then commented on that post, “Deeboo, you’re not like that.”
Is recent history fueling this online war between Deebo Samuel and C.J. Gardner Johnson?
There’s no certainty why Johnson and Samuel were at each other’s throats on social media. Neither of their teams will face each other in the 2023 regular season, nor has there been recent bickering between them.
However, these two have met in the past. Last season, Johnson was part of the Philadelphia Eagles team that knocked out the San Francisco 49ers when they met in the NFC Championship game. Samuel has stated on several occasions that he was not fond of the Eagles, not one bit.
They won’t face each other in the league this season, either. However, both have an identical 5-1 record and if they manage to keep it up, they may face off in the postseason. They should focus on their rehab and return to playing football.
Samuel went off injured at the 19th-minute mark during the Browns game on Sunday. According to NBC Sports Bay Area, Deebo hurt his shoulder and did not return to the game. Upon further examination, a negative x-report suggested it was nothing serious.
