What is sports without fans? The answer is nothing. Fans uphold the spirit of the game and they are often being cheered by the players and other members of the team. C.J. Gardner-Johnson did exactly the same ahead of the Detroit Lions’ season opener at their home stadium. He urged the fans to flock in numbers at the stadium in the match against the Seattle Seahawks. He believes that the Lions have the most ruthless fans in the NFL and he wants to show a glimpse of it against the Seahawks.

“We’ve probably got the most ruthless fans in the game. From talking cr*p, they feed off of us, they yell the loudes. You gonna see on Sunday, blue ski masks everywhere..we villains… it’s the culture. I’m changing it,” he said in the media interaction while praising the Lions fans for their desperation and passion.

While praising, he also said that he is not promoting violence. He clarified that he wants the best of the spirits on the field. He wants the loud cheers and appreciation which will provide an upper hand to them in the match. The safety also urged the fans to come wearing blue ski masks. This will add some extra spirit to the game.

The call for blue ski masks aligns with the notion of their executive, Brad Holmes, who is popularly known as Coach Brad. Brad championed the notion of NFL villains on the ground. He was pivotal in leading a cultural change among the Lions’ fans. Gardner Johnson also believes that this change has led the team to grand success.

What Coach Brad says, we villains, right? It’s part of us, it’s just the culture, I’m changing it,” Johnson said, while urging the fans to bring ski masks.

This offseason, the Lions shocked everyone by trading Gardner-Johnson from Philadelphia Eagles. CJ made his debut against the Kansas City Chiefs. The player ended the match with five tackles and two pass deflections. The performance earned him a 70.0 overall grade from Pro Football Focus. He was pivotal in restricting the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs from scoring.

There is hardly any doubt that the Lions have high hopes for their #2 donning player. That is why they traded him this offseason. The player has started becoming the fan-favorite now. It is to be seen how he handles pressure in the coming games.
