Earlier this year, the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl game in a disappointing manner. In the close game that ended with a final score of 38-35 in favor of the Chiefs, the Eagles pass rushing unit failed to register a single sack. And now, the Eagles players, who played in the big game, including DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson, are blaming the field for their loss.

“Run that bowl back on legit grass, the Dline SMASH that Oline I’m sorry,” tweeted C.J. Gardner-Johnson on Monday. This comes after the NFL blamed the players for the slipper field.

“Man pre game I went through 3 different cleats!! Even the studs wasn’t working, explain that please,” wrote the former Eagles defensive back in a separate tweet after the league blamed the players for wearing the wrong shoes.

Gardner-Johnson became the latest Philly player to blame the slippery field for their defense’s poor performance on the field. Previously, the Eagles’ Pro Bowl defensive lineman Brandon Graham said that the Chiefs‘ offensive line got blessed because of the slippery field. The Eagles‘ offensive tackle Jordan Mailata also expressed his issues with the field after the game.

“I’m no grass expert. It was just slick. You couldn’t anchor. You had to get your whole foot in the ground,” Mailata had told reporters after the game, via Tyler Lauletta. “It was like a water park out there, and we’re playing on grass.” Both defenses struggled a lot to contain the offensive players in the big game, which resulted in a high-scoring shootout. Maybe that’s what the NFL wanted!

The ex-Eagles DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson left Philadelphia in 2023 free agency and signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions worth up to $8 million. He will be competing with the Lions in the upcoming season.

The Chiefs led by their franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes have been to three Super Bowls in the last four years and have two of them. They are building a dynasty in Kansas City.

And now, they are looking to defend their crown in the upcoming season. Mahomes and the Chiefs are preparing to become the first team since the 2005 New England Patriots to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles.

Furthermore, if the two-time league MVP QB could add a ring to his already remarkable resume, he will be one step closer to surpassing the Patriots icon Tom Brady as the greatest QB of all time.
