C.J. Stroud has quickly established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this season. The rookie has led the Houston Texans to a 5-4 record and is on fire since the first game of the season. So far this season, Stroud has broken multiple rookie records and is on track to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
Stroud and the Texans won their last two games and are over .500 this season. Their last win came against the Cincinnati Bengals who went to the AFC Championship game the last couple of years. Stroud outdueled one of the best QBs in the league, Joe Burrow, during that game and led his team on a last-minute game-winning drive. He recently appeared on Tom Brady‘s Let’s Go! podcast and talked about his career so far.
During the podcast, Stroud revealed an interesting story about him promising to buy his mother a house back when he was in 6th grade. His father, Coleridge Bernard Stroud III received a 38-year prison sentence for kidnapping, carjacking and robbery in connection with a drug-related incident. He has been incarcerated since 2016. The QB wants the best for his family as he said:
For me, I never wanted to see my mom, sister, my brothers cry. I was really really young, made some mistakes, but always knew I buy my mom a house, get her out of the situation.
The Texans selected Stroud second overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. So far this season, the rookie has lit up the league by throwing for 2,626 yards and 15 touchdowns along with just 2 interceptions. He has been one of the best QBs in the league and will hope to lead his team to the playoffs this season.
C.J. Stroud shares his thoughts on the MVP debate
The Houston Texans’ rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud has had a tremendous season so far. The QB is statistically having an MVP-caliber season with more than 2,500 passing yards and 15 touchdowns with only 2 interceptions. He has led his team to a record of 5-4 and is the prime contender to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year. There are some people though, that think that the rookie should be in the MVP debate as well. Stroud had his say on the matter.
Stroud said:
It's been cool to be able to be in the [MVP] talk, but just like they love me this week, they'll hate me the next. So, I don't try to look at that stuff. I try to stay even-keeled and just stay on the straight and narrow, and just work really hard and make my teammates around me better.
The Texans had a signature win last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals and will look to build on that against the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday. It will be fascinating to see where this Texans team goes with the phenomenal talent of C.J. Stroud.
