C.J. Stroud broke the passing yard record for a rookie in a single game by throwing for 470 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Not only that, but Stroud completed 30 passes, and five of them made their way into the Tampa endzone.

Two of those were carried in by fellow rookie wide receiver Tank Dell. Trailing by 4 points with just 10 seconds left on the clock, Stroud launched a dime, and the former Houston Cougars man grabbed the pass for a 15-yard conversion. They failed to add two points afterward, but this was enough to secure their fourth victory of the season.

The Texans now have more wins in eight games than they had in the entire 2022 season. Considering the situation could easily be completely different, the form is definitely encouraging for the Texans. And leading from the front is Stroud, who spoke about his faith during an on-field interview with CBS moments after the game.

First and foremost. I gotta give all glory and praise to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. When you give your life to the Lord, He gives you opportunities, and it’s what you do with them.

When asked about commenting on his 470-yard performance against the Buccaneers, Stroud said in the post-match press conference,

It’s a blessing; I do it for the glory of God. I put in a lot of effort, and God has seen that. My family has seen it.

DeMeco Ryans is blessed to have C.J. Stroud on his team

When the Houston Texans drafted Stroud as the second overall pick in the 2023 draft, many believed that they had hit the jackpot. With games into the season and 2270 passing yards and 14 touchdowns under his belt, that statement is slowly proving to be correct.

However, more than that, head coach DeMeco Ryans praised his rookie quarterback’s immaculate accuracy.

I think accuracy is something you either have or don't; C.J. has it; we’re thankful. You can try to coach it as much as you want. [But] guys who have that natural ability to throw the football, which C.J. has, he does a really good job of putting the ball exactly where it needs to be.
Ryans told in the presser

Stroud holds the record for not throwing a pick with 192 passing attempts as a first-season starter. He only has one that came in the Week 6 game against the New Orleans Saints.
