The Tennessee Titans‘ former first-round draft pick Caleb Farley is currently recovering from the back injury he suffered back in November. He was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list by the Titans during their training camp. Amidst this, the talented cornerback has been hit by a personal tragedy as his father Robert Matthews Farley tragically died in a house explosion incident.

According to reports, Farley’s home worth nearly $3 million in Mooresville, North Carolina, exploded shortly before midnight. The authorities identified the deceased victim as Robert Matthews Faley, the father of the Titans cornerback Caleb Farley. Robert, 61 was reportedly staying at the home during the explosion.

It is unclear whether or not Farley was at home during the explosion. But he was seen visiting the site on Tuesday after the explosion and talking with the authorities per reports. Apart from Robert, there was also a second victim who was seen exiting the house when the emergency crew responded to the explosion.

He had some non-life-threatening injuries and was shortly transferred to a local hospital for further treatment. There are no reports available about the second victim’s identity yet.

As for the explosion, the neighbors told reporters that they smelled gas and hear a loud explosion around midnight. According to the New York Post, the cause for the tragic incident is currently under investigation but “there’s no evidence of foul play.” The current investigation is reportedly focused on the $3 million worth home’s natural gas lines.

Titans players show support to Caleb Farley following tragic incident

Following the tragic incident that took the life of Caleb Farley’s father, the Titans’ players and coaches have shown support to the talented defensive back.

“What’s most important is that we do everything we can to support him emotionally,” head coach Mike Vrabel said. “It’s shocking. We’ve got to focus on Caleb and his family, and how we can support him.”

The Titans’ star defensive back Kevin Byard noted how the 24-year-old Farley also lost his mother at a young as well and has been through a lot of adversity at his young age so far.

“I know he lost his mother at a young age as well,” Byard said of his teammate according to ESPN. “He’s dealt with a lot of adversity. It’s very tragic. It’s an unimaginable tragedy.”

The Virginia Tech product Farley was drafted by the Tennessee-based football team in the first-round (22nd overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has only played 12 games in his 2 seasons so far as he’s dealing with injuries. He is currently recovering from the back injury he suffered during the 2022 regular season.
