The NFL off-season is starting to gain steam. The league is just a few weeks away from the 2024 NFL Draft. Ahead of the draft, the college prospects showed off their physical traits at the NFL combine, but the projected No.1 overall pick Caleb Williams has reportedly declined medical examinations with the team.
According to a report from CBS Sports, the USC Trojans’ star quarterback Caleb Williams will be attending the NFL combine, but won’t go through the medical examinations with the teams. Williams is believed to be the first ever Combine invitee to attend the event without doing medical examinations, which is considered as one of the most essential elements of the entire process.
Furthermore, Williams also did not sign off on having his medical records shared with all 32 NFL teams according to reports. In the past, the league has gotten many complaints from draft prospects about the time spent on medical examinations.
Prospects have also complained about having doctors from all 32 teams examining them and asking them similar questions. And now, Williams has decided he won’t go through the medicals.
The USC Trojans star is expected to be the No.1 overall pick in the upcoming draft. He has already refused to throw at the Pro Day. And now, people believe Williams’ declining to do medical might affect his draft stock.
Nonetheless, Williams just met with the Chicago Bears, who are currently holding the No.1 overall pick. The Bears are trying to decide between keeping Justin Fields as their franchise leader or drafting a new QB. Williams is also scheduled to meet with seven other teams, including the Washington Commanders and the Minnesota Vikings at the Combine in Indianapolis. He is also expected to meet with the media on Friday morning in Indianapolis.
