The number 6 ranked USC Trojans went against the Nevada Wolf Pack football team in week 1 of the 2023 college football regular season. Trojans’ starting quarterback Caleb Williams, who is currently the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy had a feast against the Wolf Pack defense and strengthened his case for the prestigious award. Furthermore, apart from numbers, Williams also made a couple of flashy Patrick Mahomes-esque plays that amazed the football fans.
During the first quarter of the game, Williams made a remarkable throw in motion that had shades of Patrick Mahomes’ play in the 2023 preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. But unlike the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Williams completed the pass. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner scrambled and threw a perfect spiral while jumping out of the sidelines.
In addition, during the second quarter of the game, Williams made a play that amazed everybody. The USC Trojans were facing 2nd and 3 from Nevada’s 13-yard line. Williams received the ball from a shotgun and stood in the pocket to make a pass, but when the pocket collapsed, the USC QB scrambled out of pocket to buy some time for his receivers and threw a dart to his receiver in the endzone.
In the end, #6 USC decimated the Nevada Wolf Pack 66-22 and registered their second victory of the season. Williams threw for 319 yards and a whopping 5 touchdowns. He also carried the rock 3 times for 42 yards while averaging 14 yards per attempt.

Caleb Williams is looking to make history
Caleb Williams is undeniably the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy in the early stages of this season as he has thrown for 9 touchdowns in just 2 games. If he can keep up this pace, he will end up winning the prestigious college football award for the second consecutive time.
It should be noted that the Ohio State running back Archie Griffin is the only player in history, who has won the Heisman award 2 times. No one has won the award in consecutive years.
Besides, Williams is also becoming the clear Number 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. In fact, he would’ve been the consensus number 1 pick in the 2022 draft too ahead of Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud.
Williams has shown traits of the Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes in his playstyle and no team would be sophisticated enough to pass him on the draft. Nonetheless, for now, Williams continues his quest for the second Heisman Trophy.
