“Sounds like a diva!” – Caleb Williams’ cocky decision to skip the on-field drills at NFL Combine doesn’t sit well with fans on social media

The NFL Combine has been the go-to event for draft prospects to showcase their skills every year. While it is customary for players ranging from guaranteed first-round picks to players who are uncertain about being drafted to take part in the event and prove their skills to team scouts, the best players in the draft who are expected to be picked at the No. 1 or No. 2 spot may at times sit out of the combine.
This move is usually frowned upon because it indicates overconfidence on the part of the player and, more importantly, it limits the team’s understanding of how good a player’s individual skills are.
This year, it is Caleb Williams who has come out and decided to be present at the NFL Combine but only take part in interviews and interactions with team scouts. He will not be participating in any of the on-field drills. The quarterback’s decision has not sat well with fans who have constantly criticized his attitude, especially after his comments stating that he would only go to a team that would offer him part ownership.
The quarterback wants fans to see him throw at USC’s Pro Day in March. It does not make sense to throw at that time, the Combine is the event for all prospects. Scouts from all teams are present and eager to witness the true skills of athletes. While there will be scouts present at USC’s Pro Day as well, it will not be similar to the Combine.
Caleb Williams is expected to be the first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft
The quarterback may be doing all this just to end up on the Chicago Bears. The team is expected to trade Justin Fields and draft Williams, but the Washington Commanders are just as determined to do everything in their power to get their hands on the USC quarterback. There are other quarterbacks in this year’s draft class with immense potential such as Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix Jr., and J.J. McCarthy.
The Bears have met with all of them but may still decide to opt for Williams. The QB’s decision to sit out of throwing drills at the combine did not sit well with fans. Here’s how they reacted on X:
I hope the Bears take him. Dude sound like a Diva!

He is very talented, but I’m not sure he will be the best NFL QB in this draft

Apart from Caleb Williams, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Jayden Daniels have also opted to skip the Combine. Daniels is taking a page out of Williams’ book and will be available only for interviews and interactions with scouts.
Harrison Jr. on the other hand, has decided to remain at OSU and train rather than spend time proving himself, he already knows his draft stock is through the roof and as a result, sees no point in attending the combine.
