It seems like Caleb Williams‘ illustrious college football career is ending in a heartbreak. On Saturday, Williams and the USC Trojans suffered a brutal loss against the UCLA Bruins in a Pac-12 showdown. Following a rough loss in what could be potentially the last collegiate game of Caleb Williams, he snubbed the reporters.
According to Greg Beacham of the Associated Press, Williams declined to speak with the reporters following USC’s 3 consecutive losses to end their 2023 campaign.
In the game, the 22-year-old quarterback tried his best to lead his team to victory. He completed 31 of his 42 pass attempts for 384 yards and 1 touchdown while also throwing 1 interception. But he couldn’t help his team outduel the UCLA Bruins, who ended up comfortably winning the much-anticipated clash.
Williams and the USC Trojans started the season with plenty of hopes and dreams. The Trojans were expected to make it to the postseason and possibly win a National Championship under the star quarterback. On his side, Williams was the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy for the second consecutive year.
He was expected to become the first player in college football history to win the Heisman Trophy in consecutive years. And it was all going accordingly in the early stages of this season. Williams and the Trojans started the season with six straight victories and were looking invincible.
However, in the second half of the season, the Trojans failed miserably and only managed to register 1 victory in their last 6 games. As a result, all their dreams were shattered, and they ended their season with an ugly record of 7 wins and 5 losses.
Caleb Williams might’ve played his last collegiate game
On Saturday, the USC Trojans suffered a loss against the UCLA Bruins in a tough road game. That might’ve been the last collegiate game of Caleb Williams, one of the best college football players in recent times.
USC is bowl-eligible. But it is very rare that a quarterback entering the NFL Draft will play in a bowl game. That is assuming Williams is entering the 2024 Draft. Williams has already insinuated that he might return to USC for one more year if he didn’t like the draft order.
Williams has a big few months ahead of him. He has to make a decision as to whether to return to college or to enter the draft. However, he won’t likely make that decision before the draft order is set. So, he still has plenty of time to make that decision.
