On Saturday night, the USC Trojans, led by their star quarterback Caleb Williams, went against their PAC-12 conference rivals Utah Utes in an AP Top 25 showdown. The Trojans suffered their second consecutive game of the season as they fell to the No. 14-ranked Utes in a close home game.
In a brief video posted by Fox College Football on X, the Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams was seen sitting on the sidelines looking very distraught after USC’s second straight loss. A couple of his teammates came over to consolidate the Heisman Trophy winner, but the star signal-caller had an emotionless face as he sat on the bench seemingly contemplating their loss.
As far as individual performance, Caleb Williams was able to overcome his bad 3 interceptions outing last week. Williams had a solid outing on Saturday against the Utes as he threw for 256 yards while completing 70.6% of his pass attempts. Furthermore, he also had 27 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown in the game. But he could not lead his team to a victory against the Utah Utes.
In the end, the USC Trojans suffered a 34-32 loss in a close home game. As a result, they fell to 6-2 and are potentially eliminated from the college football playoffs. Still, Caleb looks to continue his Heisman Trophy campaign by having a big game against the California Golden Bears, who the Trojans are scheduled to face next weekend.
Emmanuel Acho suggests Caleb Williams sit out the rest of the season
After 2 losses in the ongoing season, the USC Trojans are potentially eliminated from the college football playoffs. Now that the Trojans have lost their shot at winning the national championship game, Caleb Williams should sit out the rest of the season, claims NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho.
With National Championship hopes gone, Caleb Williams should consider sitting out the rest of the season. The Heisman is a long shot, CFB Playoffs are even less likely, and he won’t play in the bowl game. The risk of playing FAR outweighs the reward. Business decision.Acho wrote on X.
Even though the CFP national championship is out of the frame, Caleb Williams could still end up winning the Heisman Trophy. If he does, he will become one of the only two players to win the prestigious award twice in college football history.
Besides, Williams would become the first player in history to win the Heisman Trophy in consecutive years. So, the history is definitely worth the risk Williams might take by continuing to play the rest of the season.
