The USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams is not having a good couple of weeks. Recently, he had one of the worst performances of his otherwise remarkable college football career so far as he threw for multiple interceptions in USC’s loss against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish last weekend. And now, reports about him demanding partial ownership of an NFL team are going viral.
NBC’s Pro Football Talk initially reported back in July that Caleb is looking to acquire partial ownership in an NFL team that drafts him in the future. According to Mike Florio, “The representatives of USC quarterback Caleb Williams had been making it known to prospective agents that Williams wants partial ownership of the team that selects him in 2024 if he declares for the draft.”
And now, the old report about Williams is going viral on social media following his abysmal outing against Notre Dame last Saturday. Williams threw 3 interceptions in the USC Trojans’ 48-20 loss against the Fighting Irish in their matchup.
Apart from Caleb, the New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers also attempted to acquire partial ownership of the Jets as a part of his contract. But just when several players were attempting to do this, the league banned teams from giving equity to players or employees back in July before any franchise even attempted to do it. So, not only Caleb, but no one can acquire ownership stakes of a team that they are playing for.
But some X users decided to repost this old report from PFT following Williams’ poor outing last week. Now, the old reports are gaining a lot of attraction and many trolled Caleb for his “demands.”
Social media bashes Caleb Williams for his demands
The 21-year-old quarterback Caleb Williams allegedly demanding ownership stakes in an NFL team as a part of his rookie contract did not sit well with football fans on social media. Many trolled Williams and said he shouldn’t demand things before proving himself in the league. Check out some reactions attached below.

Nonetheless, the league has already banned from players acquiring ownership stakes from the teams they are playing for. So, even if Caleb’s demands were true, teams wouldn’t be able to do that anymore.
On the sporting side of things, Williams was having a great season with the Trojans but recently suffered a setback as the USC suffered a loss against Notre Dame. Now, he will look to bounce back with a great performance against the No.14 ranked Utah Utes, who the Trojans are scheduled to face this weekend.
