The USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams is considered one of the best college prospects in recent times. NFL scouts consider him as the greatest prospect since Andrew Luck. People have also compared him to the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. Amidst this situation, Caleb’s Heisman Trophy campaign took a hit as he threw for multiple interceptions in USC’s loss against the No.21 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

On Saturday, the Trojans went against the Irish in an AP Top 25 showdown. In the much-anticipated game, Williams didn’t look comfortable and had one of the worst outings of his college football career so far. Williams threw for three interceptions in the game and only one touchdown. Those 3 interceptions proved to be costly as they killed any momentum USC had in the game.

In the game, Williams completed 23 of his 37 pass attempts for 199 yards, 1 TD, and 3 interceptions. Before this disastrous game, Williams had only 1 interception in his previous 6 games but he has a total of 4 interceptions after this game. As a result, his quest for the second Heisman Trophy takes a hit.

Furthermore, his draft stocks could also fall a little due to his abysmal outing against the Irish. There’s already a narrative that the UNC QB Drake Maye would be a tempting prospect for many NFL general managers over Caleb. And now, Caleb’s 3 interception performance has fueled that talk.

The USC Trojans suffered their first loss of the ongoing college football season on Saturday against Notre Dame. With this loss, USC is almost eliminated from the playoff race. They would hope for a miracle to get into the college football playoffs.

Caleb will have to perform at a very high level in the upcoming matches to get back into the Heisman Trophy race. For now, his draft stocks haven’t taken a lot of hits and he continues to be the favorite for the number 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. But if the Trojans signal-caller had a few more outings like today, he would certainly slip out of the top 5.
